Sexual Diversity
Sexuality exists on a continuum. Not all of us are destined to be attracted to one gender
or biological sex. There are different kinds of attachments: sexual, emotional,
intellectual and spiritual. These may not be separable, but may overlap, leading to a
variety of possible interpersonal interactions.
However, when we find ourselves outside of socially defined "norms", especially in terms
of sexual expression, we may experience discrimination and bigotry. For Bisexuals this
prejudice is called biphobia. Similar to homophobia, it is the fear and disapproval
directed at bisexuals for real or perceived sexual transgressions with others of the same
sex, or fear directed at self or loved-ones for potentially engaging in such sexual
behaviors.
Bisexuality Counseling in my Denver GLBT therapy practice
Bisexuality Counselingis focused on first demystifying and exposing the myths of
bisexuality. These include the misunderstandings or stereotypes that bisexuals are
"confused", promiscuous (will have sex with anyone), use bisexuality as an excuse for
adultery or polyamory, that bisexuals are equally attracted to either gender, or that
everyone is a bisexual or no one is bisexual.
